We have 2 estimates now for movers and I am in the wrong like of work! Jeez. Oh well, we have no time to move it ourselves and I am not keen on doing it in the cold and snow so it is what it is.

I agree with Rob,  some things are definitely worth paying for.    Last time I moved I did most of the packing, but not the lifting and carrying part,  and so that was good ... I could label and I knew where things were to unpack them.  Nothing worse than being surrounded by a thousand boxes with the only label being "living room" ,  "bedroom"  , etc and needing something and not having a clue where to start !  I found unpacking very overwhelming the one time I had other people packing.

Moving is pretty exhausting,  last time I did it was 20 years ago, and we'll be doing it again in the next 2 years. I always use it as an opportunity to weed through stuff and pare down.  Are you moving far?  Can you take a few loads of things you don't want the movers moving?

Tobit, that's one of the best tiny houses I've seen. I'm not partial to the ones with the doors on the end. I think it's a bad waste of space, having the two tiny spots inside the doorway on either side. Not a lot you can do with those spaces. Plus, they don't look very cozy. More like a horse trailer (load in from the back) than a home. That looks more homey to me.

Sac, I have a customer at the store who decided to paint her own house last year. She figured she was saving a ton of money. She slipped on the ladder and fell, shattered her hand. A year of PT later, her hand is as good as it will ever be... which is to say - still not good. She can at least use her fingers a little bit now though. Just saying... Sometimes it's worth it to pay for help. Especially in the snow season! :)

Angela, I agree.  Love the siding and color choices used and especially love the old french door.

Decent weather today but now mud and more mud. Hoping we get sun tomorrow. Gotta start another round of stall cleaning and picking burrs off the horses. Last load of hay had burdock in it. Won't be able to spread the manure where it is needed, will have to dump it in the old pond or risk spreading the damn burdock. Worst year I can remember for good clean hay.

38 degrees above F tomorrow, one day does not a January thaw make...but we'll take it.

Was a miserable last night, weatherwise that is. Got almost an inch of rain after the freezing rain started. I-90 buckled between Marengo and Huntley, 40 cars popped tires (including a state trooper). Jack-knifed semis, roads closed, people stuck 2+ hours on roads. Daughter was smart enough to keep up with road conditions and "accident" reports so she and her BF stayed home last night. This morning our driveway was a sheet of ice - got some chiseled off. Thankfully tomorrow's temp will hit 40 and we can get it cleared. Sold a load of firewood so we'll have split wood tomorrow.

Ha! I was looking mostly at the design, Tobit... Not the color scheme. ;)

It snowed the last 2 days. Then was totally warm today (well... as warm as it can be in January) with the snow clouds still covering us. Then the clouds turned grey and it's... RAINING? WTF? Did we just move to Washington? Utah doesn't get RAIN in January! So weird. The good thing about the weird weather is that it's thawing the ice rink I have in the back yard. The bad part is that the yard suddenly has so much water that it's not draining through the lawn, and the ice rink is now an even larger lake. I went out with the snow shovel to shovel water... Hoping throwing it across the yard will let it sink into the lawn THERE, and we can get our former path to the gate back. Because if it freezes again like that, we're gonna be screwed.

Up to +7c yesterday with light rain, minor earthquake as several tons of snow slid off steel roof, still some left on house and stuff on barn has not moved. Remaining above freezing till Monday PM so hopeing for more self removal. Started clearing snow from roof of BBQ shelter but too late for a  little awning on camper trailer, one more for the spring fixit list!

I am tired of the winter shit and its not even the end of January, wood pile looking very low already........is it spring yet?

Got my wish, sunny and high 40's. Only supposed to last through today then colder and rain. Got 1 stall cleaned and just came in for a salad. Started on the two weeks from hell on the South Beach diet. Need to loose a few pounds and I know the South Beach works but I'm sure not looking forward to two weeks with no fruit or bread! Looks like I'm going to have to take my Shitz Tzu to the vet. Limping on a front foot and appears to have a knot in the top of the foot. He's not gonna be happy...he hates vet visits. Had to spend almost an hour cleaning the burrs off of the horse that was getting his stall cleaned and all 4 barn horses are the same. Got a bucket of the burrs off him. So glad that hay is finished.

Warmer up here too. Snow is melting, I can see the bottom rung along most of the fence. Hmmm, how come there are yaks on both sides of the fence looking at each other? District rezoning? Gerrymandering? Those for . . . those against? Ahh, what the heck, the outer perimeter fence is still standing . . . I think.

Aside from that stuff, my toilet flushed for the first time this year. That's worth posting about, right? WHOOOSH! . . . All together now, WHOOOSH . . . One more time . . . WHOOOOSH! Oooh, I can't help myself . . . WHOOOOSH!

Hmmm, I'm beginning to suspect I might need to 'get a life'! WHOOOOSH . . .

Burrs in the fur are the WORST. Burrs in the mane and tail are just as bad! I know people who will shave a mane and tail off, rather than even try to get them out.

That would be my groomer.  While I'll stand there for hours combing out matts, she won't even try.  Just shaves them off.  While show quality, my dog has never been in the show ring.  She'd have to drag me, kicking and screeming, behind her.  I don't do beauty pagents.

Pruned apple trees today...still a bit to finish up with but got the brunt of it done.

It was sunny and 39...not too shabby for here and now...

I've been cutting the burrs out of the dogs and cats coat. Shiloh the horse that resembles a tank, enjoys the attention. Geez the were in the mane and tail but then when he had laid down he had gotten them all over especially his belly. Poppy, the little Arab gelding wasn't too bad...he has a much shorter coat. I've never gotten hay that had that much burdock in it and I sure don't want any more.

Had some great rain up at the farm this weekend, 56 mm of rain was enough to get the mountain leaking, our seasonal dam should be full again by the end of the week :)

Have a great week everybody!

Yesterday I was out doing some stuff in the chicken coop, when I heard a siren. Not long after, I heard a cacophony of sirens. I thought, oh no, it must be something really bad. Went outside to listen, and was then able to discern the difference between the lone siren to the south, and the pack of coyotes answering from the woods behind my place

Just in from clearing snow from the roof of our 'camp kitchen' , hell of a job as it was wet & packed, figure around 3 or 4 TONS of snow on 15 x 15 roof...... gess I must have built it ok but fiberglass sheeting took a bit of a beating trying to break it loose. Hope I donr have to do it again this year but not holding my breath, it is only 2nd week of January after all.....even if it feels like we have had 3 or 4 months of winter already.
