I have two seed catalogs now and I am plotting and planning for the new house. So excited to get down the mountain a bit but I am meeting some resistance from family on purging crap so we don't have so much to move. Emotional attachments to stuff can weigh a lot.

37 degrees right now and going up!

Sac, I browse seed catalogs all the time and I'm nowhere close to moving to my land.  I approve.

Worked on the off-grid power system today. I disconnected the display panels and cut-off switches. Still, batteries are very low. Both backup power generators have died an icy death and I am not planning on working on them when it is -17F or so. Nor will I bring them in the house to work on after my friend died in an explosion from trapped vapors. What I need is SUNSHINE say about 82F with a margharita. Wind would be welcome too, along with a sailboat. Ah well, at least I have new batteres in the wait just to catch electrons. I do have enough power to run the computer (for a few more hours) and reading lights into the wee hours. There are 4 yaks in the house with me tonight (in the spare room) and they are keeping the inside temps tolerable along with the hard working woodstoves. We'll get through this cold spell ok. And then I 'm going to kill Ol' Man Winter. I might even throttle the ground hog depending on the disposition of his shadow. And I'm not a violent man since I left my teens so many decades ago. Seeds? What are seeds?

Yakman,

seeds

those are those things you toss on the ground outside your door to see which ones survive each year.

Wind chill is 20 below zero,  driving around in snow that won't melt on the roads all day.  :|   Where's the little emoticon with the party hat?

Have had my seed catalogs since December, sent in 2 orders a week ago.  Just couldn't wait any longer... dare to dream!

Have a stack of seed catalogs but this year I'm not even looking at them. Have plenty of seeds left over from last year after the health issue sidelined me. This year's garden will consist of beans and tomatoes. That's it. Plans are to get my room built and be on a horse the rest of the time. I've had it with all work and no play

The pipe from the well to the house froze for a couple of hours today, but I managed to get it thawed.  That south wind is just wicked out there today.

Decided the reason I can't upload a profile pic is I am on iPad. Tried to get on here from my laptop that I never use and the address would not come up.  Oh well. You don't need to see my old face anyway.

Not so great here today either - winds are making the east/west roads a challenge. We'll be "warm" tomorrow - a high of 28 and a little over an inch of snow before we get hit by the "express". Predicated -21/-22 Sun/Mon night with wind chills of -35 to -45. Woodpile is just outside the garage (and some wood stacked in the garage in preparation for Sun/Mon) and thankfully the feeders aren't too far from the woodpile. I'm glad my plan is to be selfishly employed after the winter weather.

Roughly 200 million kilometres away, NASA’s one-ton, nuclear powered robotic rover Curiosity has been exploring Mars’ Gale Crater. Measurements from its REMS instrument (Rover Environmental Monitoring Station) have been arriving back here on Earth since shortly after the rover landed in August of 2012. The data only goes up to December 20/21 right now, but over the past month, REMS has been reporting daily high temperatures ranging from -25 to -31 degrees Celsius (-13 to -24 degrees Fahrenheit), and according to the data, -31 degrees Celsius is the coldest daily high the rover has seen since it landed.

We're friggin' colder than Mars...

Pretty good day today but forecasters say that is coming to a screeching halt. -25 by morning. Racing to get things ready. Water all carried in, laundry done, favorite groceries in, blankets out and ready for the horses and extra bedding added to the stalls. Heck I even put the truck in the barn! Just need to pile some stuff around the water hydrant so hopefully it doesn't freeze. Also supposed to get some snow before the frigid temps.
