Jenny...I like your new do.  Seems that a lot of people I know have chopped their locks lol  I came in to work Monday with mine and at the same time three of the guys at work that had ponytails all came in with short cuts and one completely shaved due to a clipper guide incident LMAO

Good way to start fresh for the new year.  Should have seen my hair dude's face in the mirror when he's all feeling my hair and I said chop it off and shave the back LMAO  I had to keep calming him down through it all.

Thanks for the welcome back, everybody..  I've looked over the old forum at homestead.org a number of times over the years since my "departure" (coughexilecough), so imagine my surprise when I went there yesterday and POOF...it was just gone.  I couldn't believe it at first and thought perhaps it was just a broken link or something..  I actually had to look at a cached version on google to see that it was, indeed, gone, and that's where I got this URL. Naturally, I had to come check it out.

So, um...what happened over there?  Is everything ok with Neil?

Furthermoreover, how the heck is everybody????   What's everybody up to these days?

ME?  Well, thanks for asking...   I'm still on the farm, although I'm not really trying to do any homesteading anymore.  In fact, in terms of farming, I've figured out that what I should have planted about 6 years ago to have made myself a lot more profit would have been A FOR SALE SIGN, right smack in the middle of the front yard.

I still enjoy "living out," and I still like having the option of homesteading...but what I don't have is time or money (or, perhaps, gumption) enough to support such a habit as farming and homesteading.  And what I've got now, which is about 26 acres, I've determined to be about 20 to 25 acres too much.  To that end, I've spent the last year and a half remodeling the INSIDE of the house, which has gone from 1-1/2 bedrooms and 1 bath all the way to 3 bedrooms and 1 and about 1/8th bath (it's roughed in, leave me alone).  And!  I did it all without adding a single square foot to the place; an exercise in rearrangment, mostly.

I still have goats.  I still know a heck of a lot about goats, and how to keep them living.  I just have no earthly idea why anymore.  I used to know, but....yeah, no.  Not anymore.  People keep asking me why I have goats and my response is...well, to keep the LGDs busy.  And then they ask why I have LGDs and the answer to that, of course, is to keep the goats safe.  Duh.  And that...that right there....that pretty much sums up where I've been with the whole idea of homesteading for the past 2 years or so.  I'm just kinda done, I think. The idea of having to LIVE for a living, at this point, just...well, if zombies take over the world, I think I'm just gonna waltz out into the street and say EAT ME cos I'm not real sure I even wanna do the whole post-apocalyptic thing.  Sure, it might be fun to bash zombie skulls and loot and pillage FOR A WHILE, but I have a hard enough time trying to roll up outta here and make it to work every morning.

Soooo, anyhoo.  That's me in a nutshell these days.  Older, somewhat fatter...not necessarily lazier, I don't think, but...calmer?  Less prone to unexplained fits of activity and/or pitching hissies?  I sorta think that has to do with the fact that IgotdivorcedAGAINbutanywayenoughaboutme HOW ARE YOU GUYS!?

lol

Neil is fine, he has alot of things on his plate and decided the forum didn't need to be one of them anymore.

I kinda like to keep in touch with the crew though, so I created this place - at least till someone else comes up with something better.   A free site was the best I could mannage.  Poor men have poor ways.

I'm still working in the same place, doing the same stuff.  It's recently become clear to management that I'm not readily replacable, and on top of that someone left for medical reasons and I got stuck with their job on top of mine, so it's a double edged sword of "We acknowledge you can do things other people can't", and "here, have a whole bunch more shit other people can't do".  I'm not sure how it's gong to shake out, just yet.

We've been planting lots of stuff, eating lots of stuff.  The 2012 drought fried everything and was almost a complete loss. Last year was better but not great, still a bit droughtish. The Chickens are doing well, aside from the fact our meat birds trampled all the chicks when we decided to indulge a broody hen.  I built a coop with a truck camper for a roof, It's one part outbuilding and one part redneck yard art.

Got some goats give to us.  They are little minigoats, which means they don't make much milk (if they were making milk) and they're really not worth butchering.  Pretty worthless, really, unless you run a petting zoo.

You going to sell off some of your acreage, since you don't want to deal with it?

I'm thinking four of five acres of garden area would be all I'd want to deal with, and that only if I had a tractor and some equipment, or maybe a small village of illegal immigrants.
