Same here Max.  No worries about moving forward, I don't see any bans in your future.

It would be nice if an "old timer" from the previous board would let us know if his/her screen name changed. I don't know everyone's "real" names, so some of the first names have me confused ....  or confuzzled , as Rob would say.   ;)

Expatriate always confuses me. It was that sexy chick avatar. So I always assumed chick. But can never remember whether I was right or wrong. Was I wrong the one time, or right? Maybe I was right, not wrong... *lol* You know how that goes...

The ladies lost me. I liked that Corky was just registered as Corky... Made her easy to remember. :P

And I love that you said "I", Bruce. That narrows it down! *lol*

Perhaps we need a cheat sheet up somewhere. Like

Padlikehel - Jamie
Lodestar - George

etc...

I know GEORGE and GRACIE ,  but I guess some others might not. It's just that sometimes I'm reading a post of a name  and an avatar I don't know and they say when they were on the old board....and I'm thinking ?????   I'll eventually figure it out,  maybe, kinda, sorta .... :)

I kept my screen name because I didn't just use that screen name on Homestead.  This is my screen name all over the internet.

This is my go-to blanket screen name as well. I pretty much stick with it everywhere unless I want secrecy at a different site, for whatever reason. Which almost never happens, so I have a trail all over the internet with this name. *lol* Luckily for me, I'm pretty boring. Googling my name pulls up stuff about homesteading, chickens, music, tropical fish, dogs, camping, rabbits, RV's, vegetarianism, etc.

I lurked longer than some have been members and I still need a cheat sheet to keep the cast of characters straight.  Think I'll become "Mac".  "Why" confuses me

You were correct - I possess two X chromosomes but am no shirking violet. And speaking of ambigous nom-de-'nets... SilverFlame819 is right up there with Expatriate. Magi calls me Sabrina which is close to Selena...

LOL... you are the person who had difficulties registering and then couldn't figure out what name actually took? Personally I like Mac.

I agree that simple is preferred to me.Luddite that I am. ;)

Some people (like me sometimes) have old laptops to use for connecting to the internet. (I have even connected to a BBS through modem recently. 2400 baud! LOL)

I hope that "professional looking" isn't going to require a "whiz-bang" system that is super fast with all the bells and whistles just to read and post with.

Tobit - hope your back is better. IMHO, snow and ice separates the men from the boys. Or IMHO, the north from the south!

Wait. So, Mac, are you the person formerly known as Why? I always found your name confusing, because I would log onto a different forum, and find someone from here logged in there as Why Not. Made my upstairs connectors fizzle. I would have to remember that she was not you here. *lol*

Expat - So, is your name Selena or Sabrina?

Oh, someone needs to slap this down on a spreadsheet for everyone else! *lol*

I think since most people just refer to me as Angela, rather than Silver, I kind of assumed that everyone knew I'm a chick. I understand that how I talk is confusing to folks. My frequent use of words like "dude" throw people off. I'm often mistaken for a dude when I'm new to places online because of how I talk. Anywho, since most people call ME Angela, and I knew that K9's real name was also Angela, I've always referred to her as K. Although I bet that can be confusing as well, since most people use "K" as the short form of "okay".

Example of possible confusion:

K, I'm going to dinner.

K: Why would I care if you're going to dinner?

Ha!

Thank you.  Old nickname.

When I registered, the program refused to take 6 or so names I typed in.  FInally, in frustration, I put in "Why" and the program like it.  Decided not to argue with success.  However, when someone addresses me as "Why" I think they are asking a question.  I had been trying to register for years and my old computer refused.  Then, at some point, I half way registered, and my e-mail address was on record.  Got a new e-mail address and finally got on!

Yes.  "Why" is not me.  I'm more inclined to ask "How".

I hope that "professional looking" isn't going to require a "whiz-bang" system that is super fast with all the bells and whistles just to read and post with.

I also am a fan of KISS (keep It Simple Stupid) in that I spent many years on dial up at 28k and know only to well the limitationsthat this places on many rural folks, even now having stepped up to"high speed" (thats a laugh , perhaps averaging 500k) viacell technology but am subject to major financial penalties if I goover 3G per month (and thats not hard to do even if you do NOT viewany vids).

So yes, I do hope that the pages that Tobit is hopefully puttingtogether will not be to 'heavy' but that said I do want some of those'bells and whistles' that he included in his rebuild of the old sitefor Neil/

I particularly miss the ability to go directly to the last viewedpost in any particular thread and the spell check (a feature offirefox) that for some reason does not work on this site.

No doubt there will be many requests for this or that once we moveto a permanent site and it will be tough to strike a balance betweenthose bells and those who dont have unlimited speed or volume. Forinstance BIG pictures drive me nuts when much over 150k is simply awaste on electrons unless you are going to print out a poster. Letsmake our suggestions but remember that the site cannot be all thingsto all people..... the dialogue is more important than looks andfancy dodads.

On that note I will ask again, how is it coming Tobit? I know thisthread got hijacked, as do all such conversations in an active group, but do let us know where you are at!

PS, I note that it does not like a paste from a word processor either....no worries it still is a good temp site!

Rural, I have not heard from Karen in a long time.  It's all in her hands at the moment.  I don't know what to do if I don't hear from her soon.
