I vote that we limit profanity and bickering to civilized discourse/kindred spirits, and keep the rest of the forum safe for at work or with family.  Anyone else?

Sounds good to me.

What happened to the old forum?

Neil decided he had enough and shut it down. We are here for now with plans on creating a new and better homestead forum.

Thanks for doing that. I was wondering where the forum part had gone on the old site and it pretty much looks like all advertisements now. I got the notification of this site a few days later. Is there a fund I can chip in for the new site? It's nice to have a knowlegeble community to ask about homestead stuff. Learned a lot especially from Jenny.

I agree, George.  CD and KS only, the rest of the forum is safe for children's ears.

I concur. My 11 year old likes to peak over my shoulder here and, though I can cuss like anyone else, I think keeping it out of the common area of GH seems feasible.

I also agree, whilst I can use some pretty harsh words whilst clobering a finger or when other things go wrong I find it unnessary in general conversation and limits are desirable here if we are to make everyone feel welcome.

I disagree. As I understand it ,this forum is for adults. Not Children. If we are running a forum for children,it should be stated up front so some of us can move on.

Its sort of a moot point, I have no idea how to ban people or any of that. Somebody's going to have to be a major asshole for me to go research all that mess.

I'll keep it family friendly on the general side of things. Good Idea.

Why can't I post a topic? It keeps saying that the two words I entered don't match the given text?

Can you read the captchas? It will want you to do those for a few posts, then it will disappear and let you post as usual.

I will temper my colorful vocabulary.

I'm just now almost over the stupid flu that's going around- at the 2 week mark I managed to go to work for about 4 hours, driving myself without getting dizzy. On the way home I did get a little dizzy, but I managed to make dinner and fold the laundry.

Now I've got my feets up and am falling asleep at the computer.

Getting old sucks.

What is the saying - youth is wasted on the young?

Watching local news (waiting for Letterman's Top 10 re: Christie) - so true you can't fix stupid. And getting rather pissed that yet again, a murderous pedophile is up for parole. I signed the petition to keep his sorry ass in jail, which I do every time he comes up for a parole review. At least now our current state's attorney opposes the parole in person, unlike the prior one.

The polar vortex is over. Now we're going to have freezing drizzle, fog, rain, then snow. Hoping the temps stay cool enough to avoid rain. We won't have to worry about street flooding but those in the city will.

It's so good to see so many here.

Geeze Max, I didn't realize you'd been banned. I sure must have missed something there. I've always enjoyed chatting with you, online and at the 1 gathering I was able to attend.

So a question,.... can I change my user name once I have established my account? I'm kinda tired of mama bear and like the fresh new names some of us have chosen.

peace

It appears that you can change your user name although I did not try it. Click on your name, got to edit prifile and scroll down to update when done...!

I was just getting to figure out who was who and then folks change their name and pic, perhaps I should change my name to 'confused'! I presume we will all be starting over agin once Tobit get the new new forum up and running.

How is that project coming along Tobit?

I already found myself confused a bit on the old forum, since everyone went by real names and screen names. I'm pretty spot-on with the guys, but we've got a lot of women here, and I do confuse their real names from time to time. The George & Gracie names would have completely lost me had you guys not called each other than in the old forum. I think it's not so confusing when someone changes their name if they keep their picture the same for a while to get you used to that connection, and then switch it over.

I'm terrible with names and even genda on here. I had to keep a cheat sheet next to my puter for awhile.
