The current state is, this forum is home till someone builds a better one, and nobody has done that yet.

It's sufficient. There are a lot of convenient fuctions we don't have here, though.

Ok.... I'm not asking this to re-kindle any of the squabbles that have already occurred. So guys, please just don't.

With this move of the forum, is Homestead.org also shutting down? Sorry if this has already been covered, but I have not seen anything addressing it.

I have material that I would like to submit, that admittedly I have been sitting on too long.

Jamie, no.  The main part of homestead.org, the articles, is staying active.  In fact, spending more time with writers is one of the reasons Neil chose to shut down the forum.

I like "cussing" now and then.  I have a 14 year old at home. .. and we've discussed this ... I just don't like every other word out of someone's mouth being a profanity.  I think it sounds like the person doesn't have any other vocabulary to use .  In other words, to ME, they don't sound all that smart when ALL they can do is swear.  I like to save it up for special occasions... :)  .... packs a bigger punch.     I'm not usually offended by it at all.

What happened to the old forum?

Neil decided he had enough and shut it down. We are here for now with plans on creating a new and better homestead forum.

K-9 - the forum no longer exists.  I created this place as a new residence.  It's a free site, simple and lacking a lot of features.  Others who have money to put into the venture are working on a new forum.  But the day I found out the old forum would be shut down on December 31, I went and made this one and then went about blaring it all over the old forum, on facebook, and in emails so everyone would know where to go when the lights went out.

I cuss like a sailor. Or more. When mentioning my roommate's cats the other day, I wrote that the male was a little motherfucker. I mean sometimes I REALLY hate that little fucker and want to do terrible things to him. But as soon as I wrote "motherfucker", and knew that it was allowed, I was like - Ooh, well, that's kind of scary... I wasn't sure if everyone would be offended, since we've been seeing starred out bullshit for so long that the word might give someone a heart attack. So I stared at the word for several seconds, and then had to delete it and think of what else I could say. Nothing could do how I felt justice, so I just gave up.

So yeah, it's nice to see that the new peeps in charge are not worried about Google analytics or whatever. Although I do cuss a lot, it's not something I get crazy with for shock value. It's just how I ACTUALLY talk.  I usually check the forums when I get off work at night. And after curbing what comes out of my mouth for 8 hours while on the clock, it gets really damn old having to censor myself online as well.

Now that we're not selling anything, can we just be ourselves? Hopefully the new forum will have a block feature. Then, if anyone is soooooo mortally offended by my use of the F-word, they can just opt to not see my posts.

I, for one, think it will be nice to see people how they are, and not how they're trying to conform.

Yet you were the first to condem me for calling a friend, who I otherwise help out more than you realize, a butter face.  I am sorry you don' t like my honesty.  I have never been one to be PC or otherwise complacent.  I call things as I see them.

Honesty, Tobit?  Maybe if you said it to HER.  Saying it offhand, behind her back to a bunch of people on the internet, not so much.  But weather it was to her, or about her, it's a pointless observation that could only elicit a negative response. So why say it?

Don't care about eliciting negative responses? Don't care about what people think about you or what you say? Not going to let other people's reactions dictate your behavior?  That's fine.  Think back on that the next time you're crying "everyone hates me".

Seriously, Tobit? There is a difference between saying "fuck" in the regular flow of conversation, and insulting people. If you don't see the line between the two... *shrug* That's not honesty, that's an opinion.

While being a nice human being and decent friend, you are not racking up brownie points to later cash in when you feel like being an ass. If she knew that you called her a butter face, none of your previous nice deeds would patch those hurt feelings up. There is no "I was nice X amount of times, so now I can be mean X amount of times." That's not how the world works. A lifetime of being a gentleman will only get you forgiven a handful of times.

Guys.... Could we just agree that we have always been a slightly contentious group to begin with. FWIW, I think that the cussing thing couild potentially turn some people away, however, most mature people will not mind it as, they use cuss words in their daily lives anyhow.

I do find it oddly amusing that myself and the "Frenchman", the two old Sailors are the ones cautioning against too much cussing....

I guess that I feel that, I wouldn't stand by somebody going off in a coniption fit rant, in person, I don't really want to see it/hear it on here. However, I don't mind somebody referring to an event/thing/stranger as a Goddammed motherfucking whatever.

Hi All, just arrived in the city from the farm, in a really foul mood, traffic can do that to ja. Thanks to those that dropped me a mail with the new site details (Mo, Rob, Neil...) really appreciated. That was a surprise :) But thanks to Neil for all the years of great fun and conversation on the old forum.

Also thanks to Matt and those getting this new meeting place up and running, also much appreciated :D

I still like the idea of having a "civil" section of the forum with some limits on the profanity.  When one is dealing strictly with the written word it is really easy to misinterpret someone's meaning.

And of course there can be an "anything goes" section;  enter at own risk.

On another subject:

"..I call things as I see them. .."

Well, I think I have proven THAT in my case. No guessing If I am saying one thing but think another...

8 inches of snow here so far, with another 5 to 7 hours of snow to come, probably about 12 inches or more when it is done

Minus 9 degrees F by morning.

While on the subject, while I think any one moderator should be able to ban "spam" posters, I think it should require 2 or more moderators in agreement to ban a "real" person.

And the #1 rule should be, no petty nit-picking over spelling & grammar.

I suggest the above items for consideration by the group as a whole, of course.
