THAT is exactly why you dumped the forum. It was no longer generating leads for your business. You have just verified what i thought was the reason. The forum was a marketing tool for Ozarkland, and when it no longer generated business, it was gone. It was advertising to you. Nothing else. Fair enough. I don't begrudge anyone the right to make a profit or to run their business as they see fit. Not a thing wrong with that. More power to you. But those 32 people you speak of THOUGHT you were their friend. Those 32 people did not deserve to know a few weeks ago? Who many would there have to be for you to extend them the courtesy of a little advance notice? 45? 67? TELL ME HOW MANY OF THEM THEREWOULD THERE NEED TO BE ? Don't talk to me about disrespect, sir. I think we should just drop this particular line of thought and let sleeping dogs lie. Our small but fairly tight community has been largely preserved and we aren't done yet - time to look ahead, not back.

Well, I'm not going to bed. In fact I feel newly energized. It's true that I've always run Homestead.org as an advertising tool. Not being born to wealth, I've always had to find ways to pay for the things I've done. Homestead.org has always been OzarkLand's best advertising source, and until the folks at Google got upset at the amount of cursing going on on the forum, it made a little money of it's own as well. I think you'll find that most web sites that stay in business require some form of revenue in order to do so. By contrast, however, the forum has always either made nothing at all, or lost money (and that's not including the fact that it cost us our Google contract. I started it at Sheri's suggestion because it seemed like a good way to draw traffic to Homestead.org. It wasn't. It has proved to exist only for itself. By and large, the members of the forum don't read Homestead.org articles, at least not with enough frequency to make a bump in our Google Analytics report. I guess you're accusing me of not being a friend to everyone on the forum. Well, that's perfectly true. I've met a lot of new folks through the forum; some of them I liked quite a lot, others I didn't care for at all. I don't think that makes me an oddity. Perhaps some day we can discuss the good works you've directed at other forum members. Interestingly enough, I counted you among my friends, that's one of the reasons I wrote and published a review of your book on Homestead.org. - I thought it might help you. I was a little aghast when I saw how viciously you could attack other members, some of whom I also liked, but call me unfaithful, I didn't say anything because you always treated me politely. Then, when due to my ineptitude, I had to move the forum to the ProBoards location, you posted something about not being able to sign onto it on your lowly computer as if someone had done this as a personal affront to you. I see that your computer has learned a couple of things since then as you apparently had no trouble logging onto either that forum or this one. So I'm sorry Max that I didn't give everyone time to... well to do something or other that you think they didn't get time to do, but so far you're the only one who's said anything, and it appears that you're making it up as you go along. I confess that I've been wondering if perhaps you've been eating lead-based paint chips.

This forum has PM. Folks can abuse each other all they want on there, but I think some decorum is in order in the open forums.

Look- Neil doesn't OWE anyone a forum, and the fact that it ran as long as it did is amazing of itself. So I'm sure what looks like bitching and moaning is really an attempt at, "Thank you, Neil for someplace to meet so many amazing people." Right?

LOL, the visual on that is Neil on a tractor with flames coming out the backside! Sadie - it will pass. Keep on coming in, we are a friendly bunch who, on occassion, disagree with each other. We are adults; it will happen.

Rather than rebut the rant, I will acquiese to the wishes of the group. Even through it would be, to quote, "Fun" Max

Google, bleh - it too has probably peaked, just like facebook (or as Get Fuzzy calls its alternate, ButtBook!). I find it rather humorous that software/hardware that becomes popular thinks it will never be displaced. This mindset I would expect from non-IT folks but IT changes by the day. Tis the nature of the beast.
