Rural, I have not heard from Karen in a long time.  It's all in her hands at the moment.  I don't know what to do if I don't hear from her soon.

In other words you do not have any web space to even work with yet? As many have said here we are willing to pitch in with modest amounts of cash, pehaps its time to look for alternative ISP's.....? OR how much can we do here to make the experance more inviting?

Correct, I really wanted to work with Karen but I may have to explore other alternatives.  I have several alternatives already on my short-list.  I wanted to be patient since she asked me to be patient but we are going on 3 weeks now with no communication from her.

I know how frustrating it is when you are all set to build a web site and things hold you up, we tend to loose ambition to do it! Hang in there Tobit you are our best hope at this point, perhaps other members have some suggestions as to a host, would be nice to go with someone we know but.......

I have other hosts in mind, just trying to give Karen the most benefit of the doubt.  Money isn't the issue on my end, I just thought Karen would be able to offer us a stable host.

This is a test to see how long Tobit can go before he loses his mind. :P

(Or, more realistically, Magi is simply slammed IRL, and will get around to us as soon as she can).

Magi got slammed for sure - furnace fire, the entire office out with the flu and the crud (there's a difference according to Dr. Nancy Snyderman).  Hope she didn't come down with one or the other.  Also, she said something about slipping our web site in quietly and, when it was discovered, paying for it herself the first time.  I don't think she's forgotten about us.

That said, it never hurts to have a back-up plan.  We're here now and doing fine.  While all of us would like more bells and whistles, we can work with what we've got for a while.

What's "IRL"?  In real life?

I'm okay here for now...what bells and whistles do we need?

Spell checker, automatically taken to new messages.  Wonder if knowing "this is the place where we'll stay" would take away the feeling we can't sit down good?  I have no great complaints with this site.  Can it be tweeked?  Like you, Bruce, I like the simplicity.  I need to learn how to post pictures but that's my problem wherever we are and has more to do with Win8 than the forum site.  There's a special place in Hell for Microsoft!  :D  May they get everything that's coming to them...

Wait. So, Mac, are you the person formerly known as Why? I always found your name confusing, because I would log onto a different forum, and find someone from here logged in there as Why Not. Made my upstairs connectors fizzle. I would have to remember that she was not you here. *lol*

Expat - So, is your name Selena or Sabrina?

Oh, someone needs to slap this down on a spreadsheet for everyone else! *lol*

I think since most people just refer to me as Angela, rather than Silver, I kind of assumed that everyone knew I'm a chick. I understand that how I talk is confusing to folks. My frequent use of words like "dude" throw people off. I'm often mistaken for a dude when I'm new to places online because of how I talk. Anywho, since most people call ME Angela, and I knew that K9's real name was also Angela, I've always referred to her as K. Although I bet that can be confusing as well, since most people use "K" as the short form of "okay".

Example of possible confusion:

K, I'm going to dinner.

K: Why would I care if you're going to dinner?

Ha!

I think WhyNot on the other site might have been Magi.

I don't use spell checker...but I do edit.  Posting a pic is easy if you have it on another site, just copy image url and paste it in the image popup by the 'window' thingy above.

*lol* I knew exactly who I was talking about. I just didn't know if I should spread people's screen names around. :)

Yes, IRL means "in real life".

The worst part of this site? It won't imbed a YouTube video. :(

I always want to start a new "What are you listening to?" thread, but having links everywhere is annoying.

I vote that we limit profanity and bickering to civilized discourse/kindred spirits, and keep the rest of the forum safe for at work or with family.  Anyone else?

Horseshit!  :)   Sorry, just saw all the cursing, but then it ended before I got a chance to contribute.

Currently looking at virual private server hosting via GoDaddy, same place the domain is presently regestired at.  40GB of disk space and 1TB of monthly bandwidth, should be plenty of both for a small forum.  Price also includes nightly backups with 7 days of retention.

$49.97/mo., no setup fee. ($30 for the host, $19.74 for automatic backups)

Well, I certianly appreciate the efforts of those attempting to get this thing set-up.

And I am not in charge, nor do I know what personal financial commitments people have made in connection

with this thing.

But my inclination would be to stick to the original plan until we know  that plan is dead for sure.

Just my opinion,

And i always have one.
